Lemon Leaf in Friedrichshain
The other day I had an enormous craving for hot spicy soup. Someone before told me about that asian restaurant just around the corner from our place, that was supposed to be quite good. So we gave it a shot.
Lemon Leaf is a laotian restaurant right next to Boxhagener Platz and quite nicely decorated.
First of all – as you all know by now – I am a vegetarian. My boyfriend on the other hand is a sucker for burgers, but doesn’t eat any fish. Being the loving boyfriend that he is, he decided to only order veggie dishes, so I would try his as well.
We started off with a lemongras soup on my side (to fulfill my cravings)…
…and pumpkin filled dumplings on his side.
While the soup was quite good, the dumplings were just a little bit to deep fried. Although I liked the crunchy part, I am not a big fan of food, that leaves your lips and fingers covered in oil (except for sweet potatoe fries of course).
From my time working in a sushi place, I remembered how much I loved jasmin tea, so I seized the opportunity to have it – hoping, I would come as little rolled jasmin balls. They unfortunately did not, but I liked the fact, that you can order tea not only in a cup, but also as a bigger portion in a little tea pot. Just look at it – cute, no?
As a main course we ordered a banana blossom salat (it sounded so crazy I couldn’t resist) with tofu…
…and some sweet-sour vegetables with rice and tofu.
Now this tofu did not go well. My boyfriend didn’t like it at all, and even me, being the veggie person that I am, was surprised how soft and somehow ‘spongy’ the tofu tasted, The vegetables and the sauce were great. But I guess this dish was meant to be with chicken.
The prices however were absolutely fine for Berlin – and cheap for the rest of the world.
